The 8 would give you a much cleaner sound and could also play some mids where as the 18 will probably sound distorted unless you have the lpf set at around 50 hz I also reccomend an audio control epicenter for optimum bass intensity lol

wow, great advice. Maybe if he got a dual coil 18, he could just use one of the coils for sq so it would be like having a 9" sub. Then when he wants to do spl he could hook up the other coil so it would be an 18.

To the op, I have 8 8's in my Dakota, they sound very nice, and get decently loud, but nothing like my 18 used to( in a different car though) The main reason for the 8's I chose was cone area vs box size... I have mine in a total of 2.5 gross sealed. Cant do that with an 18.

I am adding another image dynamics 8 incher this week. 4 of the ID'S would be louder than you think. These suckers are the loudest 8's, I have ever heard. I can't believe how low they play. The only 8 that would get louder is the w7 in my opinion. I am blown away by these subs. I'm a fan for life.
