Building my new garage. Osb or Sheetrock interior walls??? Can't decide.

Want to not spend a fortune but still can't decide. What do you all think? Maybe drywall lid and osb walls? Cuz I believe rock is less expensive than osb

Sheetrock for looks but > build time, OSB for speed and no hassle, exposed studs if you really don't give a shit.

if its not a garage that you do a lot of work in, mostly used just for parking cars, i'd go with sheet rock.

if its gonna take some abuse go with osb. i've even seen people use 1/8 or 3/16 masonite, it will look like shit brown all over your walls, but it beats having to repair nicks and gouges in sheet rock all the time.

kinda expensive but it pays off when you decide you wanna make use of some vertical storage

I put masonite on the lower half then pegboard up top. It covers the insulation and hanging storage is nice.

Yea I'm still kind of deciding. Doing drywall doesn't bother me. Been a carpenter for 10 years and done thousands and thousands of footage in drywall and taping. If I did drywall it would just be firetaped ( fill all the screw holes and just string a line of tape with the banjo then smooth it out. Nothing fancy.

If I do osb. Well that's pretty simple. I'm building shelves along 2 sides ( back and right of the back) and I'll have all my tools tool chests etc in one corner and a couch and tv more than likely on a mount in the other area. Yes this is gonna be my "2nd home" I guess since all guys need a good garage to mess around in and break or fix sh1t.

Won't be doing much mechancal work with tons of dirt grease etc. Just whatever. Brakes struts minor engine stuff. Also will be for my woodworking and build projects. Another thing about putting rock up is that it will be a shitload brighter which is always nice. Even though I'm gonna have about 12 of those compact 60 watt florescent bulbs that are about 5 frikkin times brighter than a standard 60 watt lightbulb

sheetrock. You'll save a ton down the road on lighting, cause OSB takes more coats of paint to cover. Also, you may want to move some shelves/cabinets around later, and it's much easier to fill the holes in sheetrock

depends on how humid the garage will get, sheetrock will crumble if it gets too damp

white pegboard is bright plus I put up 2 400 watt lights in my garage and its light daylight. I have some of the lights in the classifieds.

never use sheetrock in a garage thats designated as a shop..

I have a 35x35x15 shop and I used OSB and then put 2 coats of semi gloss paint on it

Its super durable,cheap and looks great plus I can throw a brick at it and the shit wont crumble
