Hi everyone!
I'm new here as the local forum I went to before closed down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
To quickly present myself, I had a set-up that I liked very much in my previous car, but it was sold recently and I'm looking to install something equal or better than what I had before.
Here's what I left behind:
HU: Eclipse CD5000
Fronts: CDT Audio CL 6.25 Components
Front amp: Kicker KX200.2
Rears: 2002 WRX stock speakers
Sub: 300W CDT Audio EF-120
Sub amp: MTX 300.2
In fact, I still have the sub and sub amp, but can't use the sub in my new vehicle as I want space in the trunk. I'm happy to own as 2005 Forester as these have a kit that will accommodate any 8-10" sub up to 5" mounting depth with no loss of space whatsoever, as you can replace the stock 6x9 in the trunk with a custom made box.
Here's what I have so far, but I'm very open to better suggestions.
HEADUNIT
Pioneer AVH-X4500BT - 321$
I'm not looking for anything fancy such as GPS nav or things like that. I just want a nice double-din unit with good bluetooth compatibility over a range of phones, and this seems to fit the bill.
FRONT
Speakers: Polk Audio DB6501 6.5-Inch 2-Way Component - 105$
Amp: MTX300.2 (0$) or I also have a Kicker DX300.2 lying around (0$). Wondering which one I should use.
SUBWOOFER
I have two options here, really wondering where the best bang for the buck is.
Option 1 (cheaper)
Sub: Soundstream PCO.10 10" - 69$
Sub amp: Use one of my remaining amps bridged into 4 omhs (MTX3002 or Kicker DX300.2) - 0$
This option is cheaper, but I am a bit tight on airspace. I have a maximum volume of 0.7 cu.ft. and this sub asks for a minimum of 0.75. Any other suggestions for an SVC sub with a max mounting depth of 5" and max volume of 0.7 cu.ft?
OR
Option 2 (more expensive)
Alpine SWR-823D - 115$.
Amp: If I understand correctly, wiring a 2 channel amp to a DVC sub is hell. So I could go for this nice amp here:
Soundstream PN1.450D - 114$.
This option is more expensive, but with a recommended volume of 0.5 cu.ft, this sub seems better suited to my application. Also, I'd get a warm and fuzzy feeling at having a real sub amp instead of a whacko bridged setup. I could also sell the Kicker amp which is brand new in box to get some of my expenses back.
MOUNTING
Custom made sub enclosure and speaker spacers - 140$+35$. For those interested, photos of those custom mounts can be found here: (Looks like I can't post a link since I'm new, but you can search Google for "Sea-scooby products: speaker spacers & subkits/sub boxes~ order here!"
Total so far
Option 1: 670$
Option 2: 830$
Any and all tips are much much appreciated! I want to do this right the first time around.
