So I have tried waxing my car before did a real thorough(sp) job. The small scratches went away for about week then came back. The only thing I did was put wax on the applicator put it on let it sit and the waxed it off(like the karate kid movie haha). I did not buff the car or polish(I dont think). Can someone please tell me the steps and products needed in order to do a good wax job on a vehicle.

I do details for a living, the best wax you can find retail is probably meguirs Tech wax. Depending on how deep the scratches are, wax is not going to take it off. An orbital buffer with some good cutting compound can take out scratches. The scratches were probably there the whole time you just didnt notice them until now.

try a clay bar as well for removing sediments on the paints surface. quick and easy, themn wax the car. i prefer polish over wax, but my car stays inside so i dont really need the protection.

if you buff you car, make sure you keep the buffer flat and make sure you dont burn the corners or burn the paint anywhere for that matter. make sure you are using the right pads for the right application as well. if you use the wrong pad you just wasted all of you time. may look good for a week, but wait until a week later after you wash it.

Well I have tech was that is what Ive been using. I am talking about the actuall process. Its just seems like after I wax my truck a week later I cant even tell

when its on your whole car.....clay bar doesnt cut it. there has to be something else. May have to get it wet sanded and re buffed.....

that is gunna ****.

Polishing is different from waxing because you use a cutting compound. When you polish with a buffer, the spinning makes the paint get really really hot and spreads the paint on evenly over the surface. That’s the easiest way I can think of explaining it in non-technical terms.

Heres what you should do, wash the car by hand thoroughly and rinse off the soap. Leave the car wet and clay the entire car, wash the car again by hand and then rinse and dry. After that apply a decent coat of wax and let it sit for a while. Take off the wax with some micro fiber towels. That’s my technique and it hasn’t failed me to date.

you want to dry the car and use a cleaner/detailer for a lubricant for the clay bar. some water contains sediments and other particles, which can in turn scratch your car.
