If gas mileage is a concern, my 2 wheel drive version gets about 20mpg on the highway, and only about 17mpg around town.

A 4WD version would probably be worse than that.

A Honda (or something like that) would probably be a better choice for someone who will be on a tight budget going to school.

I had a 86 4wd I got for $200 with 2 blown head gaskets. Rebuilt the whole thing and it ran like a top. It was great off road and a fun little rig.
