Local guy around me fixes them all the time. RRoD or bad disc drive, w/e the problem.
If the one you bought doesnt have the HDMI port than you got ripped off if it does then you're good, look on craigs list around you to find someone to do it. It's a pretty complicated process and easy to mess up if you don't do it right.
The E-74 is the RRoD issue or something directly related to it right? For that you have to take the console apart, disassemble the mobo, clean off the diodes with rubbing alcohol and go gone, then put it all back together, it sounds easy but the slightest mistake and you sink the whole system.
Note. Most people that fix them for a living will not work on them if someone has worked on it before them.
Just look on craigslist for someone around your area, it should cost you around $40 to get it fixed, but in most cases if you have the RRoD that means you also have a bad disc drive and that cost $75 on average.
