Bridging

I currently own 2 10" pioneer ts-w255c subs, and it's powered by a 2 channel 1200W (401 or 301 not exactly 100% sure), but i wanted to know if it would be possible to bridge that amp, the amp says if it is bridged it would be mono... so if anyone knows and can show me how to do it... i would be gratefull

Typically to bridge a 2ch amp into a single, mono output you would connect the positive output from the left channel and the negative output from the right channel and connect these to whatever speaker(s) you're wanting to drive with the amp.

Some amps have a switch on them that needs adjusting to the appropriate mode when the unit is in bridged mono mode and some auto-detect this mode by how it's wired. As I haven't a clue what a 1200W (401 or 301) is I'll leave it up to you to read the manual and work it out.

Okay so again, i'm trying to bridge a Rockford Fosgate 401 i belive thats what it is.. 2 CHANNEL amp. to run two 10" pioneers... how would i go about doing that? on the amp.. it says bridged and it shows a line leading from the LEFT side Speaker of the amp (+) and the right side speaker of the amp (-) so what do i do to bridge it? please help i wanna do it tonight

So all i have to do is just twist both the + sub wires and both the negative and just put them into those 2 slots?

Okay, Tom -

Those particular drivers (Pioneer TS-W255C) use a single 4 Ohm voice coil. Since you have two of them you can wire them in parallel to create a 2 Ohm nominal load or wire them in series to create an 8 Ohm nominal load.

See here for diagrams depicting wiring methods for both ~ the top diagram is two single 4 Ohm coil subs wired in parallel, the bottom diagram is the same subs wired in series.

Is your amp the Punch 401S? If so then it is rated to output 400w @ 4 Ohms in bridged mode and is not stated to be stable at a lower impedence than that when bridged.

So - if you're going to run the amp bridged my suggestion is to push a single sub with it rather than both of them. using both of them with the amp in bridged mode will either give you about 100w per sub if you wire them in series to an 8 Ohm load or potentially can burn up the amp with the subs wired in parallel to an impedence load lower than what the amp is rated for.

Right. Can't bridge that amp to run those 2 subs in parallel. Either run each sub from its own channel (100 watts each) or bridge the amp (use 2 outside terminals) to only one sub (400 watts).
