Bridged Amp, question

I just bridged my amp - JL 300/4 and I was wondering if how I bridged it is safe & optimal for both the amp, speakers and sound quality.

Pritty much, front right speakers running off the rear set of outputs while the front left running of the front set.

Now instead of using RCA spliters I just connected both the front and rear left RCA's into the front set of RCA inputs and front and rear right rca's into the rear inputs.

Set the gain to minimum that seems to be enough power to get them loud enough.

Is this an acceptable substitution to using RCA splitters???

i would get some splittes but it plays ood then you fine why you bridge them ?? then turn gain down ??
I bridged it to hear how more power would affect the speaker's sound and dynamics. The reason I turned the gain down is because it was playing as loud as before with the gain all the way down. I put a volt meter to it today and noticed that even at the lowest setting the voltage was above what JL recommends when bridging the amp so I turned the input voltage to high and adjusted accordingly. I wasn't very impressed with the sound, it sounded really flat all around. Sounded a lot better when I had all four speakers hooked up...
