Bridge amp, Y-splitter needed? Fosgate R300

So many threads about bridging, sorry to make a new one as I couldn't find my answer.

I'm thinking of bridging my RF Prime R300 4 channel amp and was wondering, is a y-splitter needed? What would happen if it's not used? I don't understand why a y-splitter would be needed. Take a look:

You would need a set of RCA splitters to do that. The R300-4 does not have a 2/4 channel input switch.

Thanks, I'll go ahead and purchase some.

Now as for adjusting the left/right balance on my HU, I will now use fade instead of balance right?

If you only have a pair of RCA's (left & right), then you will need two 1-Female, 2-Male RCA splitters like these: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=5&series_id=36&family_id=64&item_id=108356&locale=en_US&p_status=

Then you can still use your left / right balance instead of fader.

Oh wait yeah that's right, don't know what the hell I was thinking, I got the HU output and the amp inputs mixed up.
