Bridge amp - Mono/Stereo

Hey all,

I have a Alpine PDX-4.150 amp and was thinking of bridging it to my Boston Pro 60's. So bridging 4 channels down to 2 channels @ 300 rms x 2 @ 4ohms or 2 ohms.

Head Unit is an Alpine CDA-9887

I just read an old thread that mentioned making sure the amp will play stereo in bridge mode and not mono.

Alpine does not list if the amp plays stereo or mono in the bridge mode. Does anyone know for sure how it is?

Would using the input channel selector on the amp correctly play the amp in stereo as I am using left and right rca's (Front & Rear pre-outputs) still to the amp from the head unit?

Gets confusing at times so I hope someone is able to explain it to all us newbie's

Thanks:uhoh:

Not sure what old thread you read, but I don't know of any 4 channel amplifiers not capable of maintaining stereo output while bridged.

All you have to do is send only the left signal to one set of channels, and only the right signal to the other set of channels.

So, for example, send only the left signal to channels 1 & 2 (which are bridged together) and only the right signal to channels 3 & 4 (which are bridged together).

You do not need to use the front and rear preamp outputs from the headunit. But you will need to use all of the amplifier's inputs. Easiest way to do it is just use the front preamp outputs from the headunit, and then use a y-splitter to send the signal to both of the necessary inputs.

Thanks for the reply.

As for the y-splitter, does this degrade the signal at all?

I do not have a problem with using 2 sets of RCA's on both the head units outputs other than loosing my rear speakers that would run off the head unit when I need it (When peaple are in the back seats)
