Subs aren't like a car where you have to take it easy for awhile or you'll eff it up. When a manufaturer refers to a breakin period for a sub they are talking about typically how long it takes for the suspension to loosen up. Before that happens the actual parameters of the sub aren't what they should be and the sub may not sound right, but that's about it. Some people break their subs in overnight (especially if they plan to test them for specs themselves rather than just trusting the supplied specs) free air with a small (10w or so) amp playing a test tone.
