what brand of components do you guys usually run in your cars. I was gonna buy the morel comps but not I am second guessing myself. I see that rainbow's are more popular or dynaudio locally atleast. How would you guys rate all of these, rainbow profi vanadium 3 ways, morel elate 6 3 way, dyn audio 3 ways, to the more advertized focal and mb quart. thanks

how can you go wrong with any mentioned? Its about finding the type of sound you are looking for. Dyns and Morels are on the warm, smooth ,laid back sound- unobtusive midrange and thick bass. Focal and Quarts are on the brighter , livelier sound with rich midrange and high freq extension. The Rainbows can deliver the best of both camps i think.

Since talking 3way sets, perhaps I should touch base on the obvious. The Rainbows/Focals and MBQ's use cone midranges-which are better suited for on axis/angled mounting to properly set up. The Dyns and Morels both use very nice dome midranges- with excellent off axis dispersion- basically alot easier to use, you can put'm anywhere, they dont quite need a baffle or enclosure as they are closed back drivers. With the ease of use of the dome, comes at the compromise however of achieving a true single point source as these domes are no good below 500-600hz with superb shallow slopes without compromising power handling. The cone drivers however play much lower and cover a greater vocal range, with a more ideal reproduction altogether.

Dome midranges are nice and simple to use- but I myself had to modify mine to play lower, and would still love if they could play even lower than the ~380hz i squeeze out of mine.

So basically IMO if you are going to run a passive setup, you will get a better performance across the whole range out of a properly set up 3way set with a cone midrange.

I run either my Iridiums or Rainbow CMX's depending on how I am feeling, I switch my system out almost monthly..

These choices sound Very familiar, like a conversation that I had with a guy on the phone this afternoon....
