Brand New Sundown SA-12 with Separated Dustcap?

Hey all,

So I ordered two brand new sundown sa-12s and opened them last night. All seems well but one of the subs has about 3 inches of the dustcap on the subwoofer not glued onto the woofer. I think I have some speaker glue laying around from years ago, but was wondering if this is a big deal or of it's cosmetic only. The dustcap is on there sturdy, but who knows if it would to fall off after some use.

Is this a big deal?

Glue it down and it should be fine. Sometimes little things can pass through QC I guess. But it should just be a cosmetic thing and should be an easy fix. If you wanna make a big deal out of it, Im sure Sundown will help you out. But its not worth the hassle since all ya need is a little epoxy or CA glue to fix it.

Sounds good. I'm actually trying not to make a big deal about it as I hate the hassle, even though I know Sundown has great rep. As long as the glue works I'll be happy. I just seems that the dustcap was not centered on the cone evenly so the edge of the dustcap that is not glued to the cone is lifted away from the woofer by a 1/8th of a cm or so. I just hope the glue will be thick enough.

if you want i can send you a partial tube of black e6000 free of charge or if you wanna pay shipping i will fix it for you for free.

just pm me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If you aren't comfortable fixing it we can replace it -- typically we would catching anything like that in QC testing.

Check to make sure it's not simply the very edge lacking visible glue -- the cap may be glued down but not squished out to the edge.

Off subject a little, When i can afford a pair of Sundowns i'm getting them! Ha, To have sundown take care of a situation on here for you is great, Must be a awesome company. I know they sound great. One day! It's just a cover won't be a problem.

take a piece of paper and slide it into the crack and see if it goes as far as you think like Jacob said the glue just might not have came to the edge of the dustcap.

First of all, I'm not disappointed/bashing Sundown. This was just for pure curiosity. Your post here is an example why I decided to go with Sundown in the first place (along with your great products.)

I just tested to see if there was still glue under the space, but I was able to push a small piece of paper through it, so I don't think it's totally sealed. But at the same time I don't know if it's worth the shipping/waiting hassle. (for both parties.)

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about, there's a few other spots not seen in this photo:

So my last question is, if I go ahead and install these subwoofers and lets say 6 months down the road the dustcap does start to separate, would you still be able to fix it? Or would it count as an error by me since I didn't have you fix it right away?

I just ask because I don't know how big of a deal this is, and if I install it and nothing ever happens, well, then it's a win-win.

We can still fix it if it's a problem down the line.
