Originally posted by Wkerat I am looking to add 2 subs and an amp. All of my friends are on me to get some L7's or JL W7's but I heard Brahma's were good too. Can anyone compare them? Should I look at any other subs? And what is a good amp to power them? I want a good mix between SPL and SQ, but I would like to hear about any good subs I shoudl look into
i can compare them. my friend has a 15L7, and its REALLY sloppy. some of that is because of the box, but it makes some very wierd noises.
on the other hand, ive heard several brahma 10 and 15 setups...and they were VERY articulate.
here's my review of one:
i got to listen to marshalls black s10 this past weekend, and i was flat out floored by the sound. lemme start off by saying that now im REALLY not happy with my setup... ...and its all cuz marshall let me hear something SOOOO sweet.
i dont remember which head unit he has, but its a pioneer premier. the preouts run to a single PG xs2500, and 2 dei 1100's strapped. the pg runs the cdt hd 62st's, and the dei's run the ported brahma's @ 30 hz for sq.
i dont remember all the songs that were played, but i do remember a couple (and hopefully he'll jump in with the rest): i listened to the eagles hotel california, something by avalon...and my memory fails me on the rest--i was too ingrained in the sound to pay much attention to the names of the songs.
all the music i heard was played VERY loud, but it was just to show how clear they could be without and (audible) distortion.
first of all, lemme discuss hotel california. it was recorded live, and is hot on the right side (a lot louder on the right than left). the bass blended very well, and was punchy. it wasnt enough to be distracting tho...the mids did a very good job of pulling the soundstage to the front, and were very even in soundstage height, despite being in the factory location (althought built out about 1.5"). the tweets were very mellow, but hit every note precisely as recorded. the tweets were mounted about 12" up from the mids, but i could not tell any separation. the stage depth from the cdt's was almost to the front edge of the windshield, and the width was a little beyond the pillar on the left, and slightly further beyond pillar on the right.
all the tracks that were played for me (including several from a competition cd) were enough to make me want to replace EVERYTHING in my stereo...the install looked beautiful and sounded even better.
