Box volume question.

Constructing, or shall i say designing, a box to go behind the drivers seat in my tundra. I need x ammout of volume, and im just toying with cardboard molds, what is the best way to figure out a new boxes volume. I though about pouring water into the 'dummy' box as a last resort, any one else know of any good material that is package at an X ammount of volume? thanks
