I have a alpine mrp-m450 amp running 1 type-r 12" in a sledgehammer at 400watts. I had it tuned to 38hz (recommended for the box) but it seemed like it didnt hit as hard as when i tuned it to 50hz.

Am i a crazy person?

And i set the gain at 28.28v..no bass boost..no LOUD setting...is there still ANY chance of blowing the sub? Or even with a hair turn on the bass boost? Or for more bass should i just upgrade to a m-650 @ 600watts?
