box too big?

my dad has a digital multimeter. how would i go about using it to set my amp? and wtf is an ocila-whatever? how do i use a test tone. i'm used to doing this by ear.

that JL link confused the shit outta me.... i dont have a JL amp
1. Your amp may not have a high/low input voltage switch.2. You may need to calculate max voltage (using the formulas from that thread) instead of using the JL amp chart.

Other than that, the process is the same for your amp... the dials, inputs, and outputs are just in different locations.

also, i found some 1/2" MDF. will that be enough, or should i go 3/4 or 1? how much does a sheet cost on average?
1/2" is way too small... unless you doubled up every panel.
Try to find 3/4" and do a double front baffle (two layers of 3/4 glued together) -- throw in a few braces, too.

what size should i build it? i guess i'm lookin for more SPL than SQ. just hard lows
If you were looking more for SQ, then I'd say go bigger... but with the power you have (and your system goals), 1.25 cu ft looks like a better fit.
If SPL is your goal, then ported seems like a better fit... but with a different sub than the X.
