Box sanity check

I used winISD to design a box for my 10 inch type R. I came up with a 1.5 ft ^3 box (24.26x12x7.7 internal dimensions). I used 25 hz as a tuning frequency and that gave me a port of 3 inches x 17.72 inches.

This is my first time ever designing a ported enclosure so I thought I would come here for a "sanity" check.

FOSGATE JOE: No, I didn't. I forgot to include port volume (my first ported box) and I wasn't aware you had to figure in speaker volume. Thanks for the heads up.

All: what would you recommend I tune to?

Tuning is relevant to what you are looking to accomplish from your set up. If you want sole SPL and little SQ, then tune in the mid to high 30's or so, if you want SQ while losing SPL, then tune around 28-34Hz.

i wouldn't recomend that at all, go bigger and tune higher, you'll still get the lows and a lot of spl, unless your going fo r str8 sq

Here is my deal. I had an infinity sub (1042 reference) in a .75 box and it was pretty loud. I decided to upgrade to a Type R sub only to find that in a sealed box it wasn't very loud at all. I am runing 350 watts RMS and I really don't want to have to buy a new amp to get some SPL out of this setup and I don't have a whole lot of room to work with (mustang convertible) anyhow.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps the R needs either more time to break in to get louder (it is only a week old), or it needs more wattage (not a good option for me). Thats where I came up with the idea of putting the sub in a ported box to gain a few DB.

My primary concern is SQ so if there was a tuning frequency that gains a few more DB yet maintains a sealed box SQ that would be the best option for me I think.
