Box Question

Hey, I am wondering why does my speaker box vibrate more and produce less bass then my friends box. My friend has a box just like mines but his produces more bass when i put my sub in his box. I am thinking it might be because my box is not made out the right kind of wood and my box is heavier then his.

I am using a 12in truck box because the sub is in a Ford Ranger..

Do I need to get a better box?

Maybe you should provide at least a little bit of info, man. What sub are you using? What amplifier are you using? How big is your enclosure? What's the enclosure made of (wood type and thickness)?

I'm going to take a blind stab at this even though the questions are all unanswered. I assume it's a cheap, prefabricated enclosure that's way too small for your subwoofer. If that's the case, you'll need to get a better box. It'd be best to have one built specifically for your woofer.

The best sub in the world will let you down if it's in a crappy enclosure.

Sorry guys for not posting more information..

I am using a Kicker 12in comp sub with a Legacy 800w amp. Sealed box.

I think i am using 10ga speaker wire i just bought from the store

No i did not try my box out in his car. He doesn't have his car at the moment so i just toyed his box and his box sound alot better then mines.

Do you think the material the used to make my box wasn't the correct kind of wood/ material?

That would be a complete guess as we can't see it. sure it's possible. is his box bigger or smaller than yours? do they look like the same thickness of wood?

Same size.

His wood looks more like ply wood and the wood in my box is smooth like bored type wood.

from what your describing your box sounds like it is better quality. hard to say why his would be louder. unless maybe his being of thinner cheaper wood is actually not dampening the speaker as well which allows the suspension to move more freely. and that's just a total stab in the dark.

Oh alright, well i am going to reposition it tomorrow because it is in a Ford Ranger and there is not alot of room in the back so the bass and travel. But im going to move it around and see what happens.

build a custom ported enclosure. you will be more than happy with the improvement. it's not that hard. basically just make lowes cut it and glue it together
