Box Placement Help

I have my box on my back seat and im not sure if i should have the port about 4-5 inches from my door or have the closed end up against the passenger door where the port has alot of room? Sub seems louder on higher opened up and deeper and lower with it close to the door with less higher frequency loudness? Does it put strain on the sub having the port really close to the door?
