box ideas -VFL

looking for anyone familiar with the use of 2 AB vfl 15". i just tried a 10^3 ft tuned to 35 -120+ inces of port, and it seemed a bit too much "spl..ish" for daily. bass was a bit sloppy on high excursion. i need to do another box now due to popping the top seams apart anyway( just not enough bracing inside and should have used countersunk screws). i would like to get the bass response a bit tighter for daily listening and what not. i guess an "sql enclosure basically. i was thinking dropping maybe to 8 cubes max and cuting the port area down some. any suggestions??? by the way using a 150.1 and in an suv.
