box frequency help

i have 2 cvx 12 dual 4. and have a box with a volume of 9856 cubic inches, a port length of 16" a heigth of 12" and width of 3" and i belive a frequency of 28hz give or take a few. My question is, is the frequency the box is tuned to the frequency that plays the loudest or what?

under that frequency your box supplies almost zero dampening.

However, your subwoofer's suspension should be able to handle notes under its tuned frequency. But I wouldn't overpower them if you're playing things under 28 hz.

28hz is a little low for the tuning go with 33=36 hz u will b alot more happy

the tuning could be deemed as the "sweet spot" and there is a roll off in both directions

okay i have them powered by a treo 800rms @ 1ohm, so what you telling me is that 33-36hz would be the loudest.

The box is generally the most efficient around 3-5hz higher than the tuning frequency(ie: the "peak"). This is of course sub and box dependent, but 5hz is pretty normal.

thats a nice range. If you consider what Ryanm923 said, that puts you right at 33hz..

30s is low for spl. I dont know exactly what average would be considered, it seems as if i see alot of mid to high 40s

Depends what vehicle you're driving. Find out where your car peaks at and build a box around that.

i had 2 12 cvx's and i tuned my box to 27 with a aq1200d and it hit deep and tight i cant stand bass that high the box that came with my sub is suppose to be tuned for 37 and thats anoying its loud but not my bass preferance if i were u i would tune it for a solid 32 33 and u do have about 4-5 hz up or down from where ur original tune is so u will be better off there.
