box for type r 12

hello i just picked up an alpine type r 12

ive got an 05 civic sedan with a trunk thats 36" wide and 14" tall

need box help.

how much cubic ft net should i use?

how much port area?

i want to maximize SPL and still hold decent SQ (tuning of ~32hz is what i want)

also, anyone have any box building techniques, tips and tricks.

- duct tape around sub (i dont understand where to put it)

- rounded corners

-smoother surface than mdf

-etc...

i want to make this a superbox.

any and all input would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

what about the depth of the trunk?

why don't you tacke a fiberglass enclosure? 32hz is probably my most common tuning frequenciy for everyday use type boxes. 36x14x20 would give you aproximately 4.5 cubes before displacements that should give you plenty of room to work with for yoru type R 12.

^ that is doable, but i prefer to keep it smaller because i want to still have quite a bit of trunk space.

id say no more than 17" length

by 32hz, i mean anywhere between 30 - 34hz

dont make a 4.5 foot box for one R maybe 3 cu ft tuned to 34 hz, but talk to the type-r experts

true. lets assume the box was made properly, with displacement from internal bracing, and four 3" ports, you would end up with a total internal volume of about 3 cu ft.

but he said those dimensions are too large....

i prefer a slot port. much easier than actual round ports for me.

tune it at least to 34-36 hz, youll get more SPL, and wont loose out on those lows make the box as big as you wanna make it dont go any smaller than a 3
