My girl wanted some bass with her music so i bought her a Phoenix Gold Ryval 12" sub, nothin fancy it is 150w rms and she listens to Rock and occasional rap.

So here is the details:

Her car is a 1996 Honda Accord Sedan

Since the sub is only 150w rms would it be better for it to be ported?

Specs for Sub:

# Subwoofer Size 12"

# Voice Coil(s) Dual (2 voice coils)

# Impedance 4 ohms

# Peak Power Handling 600 watts

# RMS Power Handling 150 watts

# Woofer Surround UV Treated Foam

# Woofer Composition Paper

# Sealed Box Volume .5 - 1.7 cubic feet

# Ported Box Volume 1.6 - 3.0 cubic feet

# Sensitivity 88 dB

# Frequency Response 25 - 250 Hz

# Xmax (millimeters) 7.7 mm

# Top Mount Depth 5.4"

# Cutout Diameter 11"

The custom box i put together for my sub sounds amazing, makes 1 sub sound like two, but i did not design it, i just cut and glued it together, so i ask this. Would someone please be able to design a nice box for that single 12" that works great with rock and rap, sealed or ported whichever would be best for this situation!

Thanks a million!

Ah, well what would you recommend for this? sealed or ported?

i was thinking since it was only 150w rms, sealed would be too quiet?

more detailed specs:

VCdia: 2-1/8" *Frequency response: 25-250 Hz *Magnet weight: 40 oz. *Fs: 30 Hz *SPL: 87.5 dB 1W/1m *Vas: 1.83 cu. ft. Qts: 0.60 Xmax: 7.7 mm *Dimensions: A: 12.25", B: 11", C: 5.4".

Not always.

Now will it be as loud as ported? Prolly not.

Would a 2.5 cuft box ported to 38hz sound good? (3 cuft might be too big for the trunk. ) I want her setup to be SQ not just a bunch of farts.

usually a sub with that low amount of power you can get the most out of it by a big ported box....like 3 cu ft, tuned to 40
Terrible advise man.

If your gonna do a ported box, tuned to 35hz or less, IMO.

And 2.5 is the biggest I would go.
