Box for 3-ways?

i have a pair of old 6x9 3-way kenwoods, and i was going to sell them to a friend, but he wanted to know how they sound. so i disconnected the 5x7's in the back of my car and hooked up the 6x9's. they have little if any bass response! turned up all the way, the only thing i heard was the ear piercing highs. i was wondering if i put them in a box that maybe there would be more bass from them? if so, is there any internal volume that i should go with or just anything as long as it's a box? anything i can do about the highs? thanks in advance.

Definitely a box like 0.25 cu ft for each one would help, but they should have some bass without it, I have a set of 4 way 6x9 kenwoods and they have the proper bass in the stock locations, there should be something wrong woth the install, I´m not saying they should sonud like a 12" sub, but they should play bass too.

i don't know what's wrong, i really don't. i played with the crossover's on the hu and finally got a little out of em, but i still got more out of my 5x7's than i did out of the 6x9's. i think i might take it to my local car shop and ask them if they know what's wrong.

positive and negative are in the right place, and the woofer isn't blown, it definately moves, just no bass. my friends' moms car with the stock system hits louder than mine does without the subs, lol.

the problem here i think is that you havent yet sealed the front of the speaker from the back...you prolly have it wired correctly, but is there is 6x9 hole u put them in or did you just run them sitting on the ground? i had mine sitting on teh back dash and hooked them up just to hear how they sounded, and there is no bass to match the highs and mids....then i dropped them in the holes and voila, there was bass...trust me u just need to seal the front from the back and it sounds like you had them just sitting there so i hopw this helps....

as for the highs, the bass should balance it out once u seal it.....

well, you are correct there. i laid them on the back bench in my car for 2 reasons. 1, i was kinda in a hurry at the time, and 2, the hole is barely big enough for the 5x7's i've got now, and the guy before me jammed these 6x9's in and kinda screwed up the surrounds, so i'm not planning on putting them back in:) but i have the mdf to make a box now, and my little project is in process:)
