Box for 3 Type R 12s

Hello,

Im going to be working on a 04 tahoe. 3 type r 12 dvc 4ohm. Im going to be pushing them with a hifonics 2000 mono block.

I was wondering if the following box design will work for these subs, because I really dont want to buy a pre-fab, even though its much easier to do so.

what im looking for is some major bass.

That box is a bit too small for 3 12"s. Only 3.5 cubes, and that's not even with the subs installed, figure with subs installed around 3.3 cubes. I'd shoot for closer to 1.5-2 cubic feet per sub and a bit higher of a tune. That setup is right around 30Hz flat. It would be a nice flat sounding box, but you wouldn't get the full potential out of them. Also... you might need to make the port bigger as well, only 56 sq. in of port area, you might run into some problems there.

May I suggest making the box taller for a total height of 18"? Then simply make "Port Piece 2" 6 inches long instead of 21.5" That comes in at 4.6 cubic feet at 34.5 Hz. Once the subs are added, should be right on 4.5 cubic feet with 1.5 per sub and 35Hz tune. That should slam real good.

Almost forgot... also making the box taller increases the area of the port. So it would be 66 sq. in so that should help a bit as well.

I figured the 2000 watt hifonics was a good match.

The r's are 1500 watts rms and the amp is 2000 rms.

Should I go with the 2600 watt hifonics.

With 3 D4's lowest ohm load you can get with that amp is 2.67 ohm load. I would just run 2 subs should be louder I would think.

The box is made for 10's, so he'd have to stagger the 12" subs in order to make the fit on the front baffle, which he won't be able to do unless he makes it a good deal taller....I'd just get a design that fits your car instead of trying to alter something that's to small in every aspect.

i put three dual 4 type r's in a ported box wired straight up and got a perfect 1 ohm load. hook them together and see what they read with your dmm
