Box for 2 Kenwood KFC XW 1222D

I have two Kenwood KFC XW 1222D subs . 12 inch Dual coil 2 ohm 2x 300 RMS 2x 1000 Max
Closed box advice is 35.4 liter for one So I need 70.8 liter. ( 18.7 US Gallon )
Ported box 42.5 liter .for one .
I would like to go for a closed box. but can I make it a bit smaller, and id zo how manny %.
And what are the drawbacks if I go lets say 25 % smaller?

You will lose some low end extension when it’s too small. You can throw a little polyfill in the box to help.

I would recommend no going small on sealed; that would create a box with probably very little low end extension.
