Box design question

The question I have is can i increase width and it still make the sub sound the same as if i just increased depth? the only reason im asking that question is i see all these single sub boxes and they all are like 15 inches deep and only about as wide as the sub. so if i wanted 1.5 cubes would it be ok to have 30w x 13.5h x 9d as opposed to like 15x14x16? like will the sub be able to utilize air thats that far away from it?

and how much space should there be between the back of the sub and the box.

it doesn't matter as long as there is a few inches of clearance from the magnet of the speaker to the back wall of the enclosure.
so it doesnt matter how wide it is as long as its sealed up? 2.5 inches from the magnet to the back of the box should be good?

You're good... airspace is airspace, the sub doesn't care which dimensions you use to arrive at a designated volume.

Also, as far as space behind the sub.... You only need to leave a space equal to the diameter of the pole vent. This is sufficient breathing room.
