This is my first time building and carpeting a box. I've had a lot of experience working with wood so the building part was quite easy. Carpeting, on the other hand, was a completely foreign concept to me so it was fun for me to try (and learn) how to carpet. I think the results are pretty good. =)

Some details: This will house two 2-ohms 12" Type-R's with about .8 ft^3 to each sub. I also doubled up on the thickness for the front, because I wanted more stablity and strength to the panel that'll hold my subs. I used PowerGrab for glue secured with a lot of clamps and drywall screws. I also used silicon to seal the inside, ensuring a airtight fit.

THE END RESULT

I only messed up on two things: the sides and the bottom. I didn't make a groove/overhang like suggested in the carpeting tutorial so now my sides are a bunch of overlapping cuts. It's not that bad, since the handles should help hide the worse of it.

The bottom, I tried to cut through both layers for a nice tight fit but messed up and ended up somehow cutting off too much on one side so I had to get another piece of carpet and glue it under the two edges so now I have a slight 'bump'. Any suggestions on dying the carpet? I accidently got some of that 3M 77 glue on one cut on my side and now it has a white-ish film on it. Also I was thinking if I dyed the carpets on the side, it might help the overlaps blend better. Thoughts?

I plan to attach those handles on the sides with bolts that will go all the way through the side panels so the handles doesn't rip out on me when I'm carrying the box. I'll be using silicon to help seal the small openings around the screws/nuts, so it's all gravy.

its hard to have a sealed enclosure with 2 big-*** holes in the back. please tell me you're putting teminals in there.

ok i was just concerned... those looked like rather large holes. I hope it sounds great.

I cut them slightly larger than my terminals so it'd fit nicely. I plan to silicon the heck out of it to prevent any gaps.

hell yeah. the box takes up a decent amount of space in the back of my xterra and i know that there are times where i might have to remove the box to haul some supplies (i have the only car out of the 4 ppl living at the apartment). plus i thought it'll look cool.

heh when I had my box with 3 CVR's in my explorer, you would've needed a forklift to remove it ^_^.
As far as theft is concerned, if you feel like you need to, bolt a ring onto the side of the box that you can hook a cable and lock to, and attach the other end of the cable to the frame of the car. That way, it's secured to your car, and if you need to get it out, just unlock it and pull the cable out.

yeap! i plan on doing that. the back of my truck is really nifty, i have two tracks in the floor where i can secure mounting clips and i plan on running some steel wire from my box and mount it to my tracks. (i have a '05 nissan)

i doubt it'll be 100% theft deterrent but it should cause enough problems and make life hard for the poor guy stealing my box.
