box built but smells bad?

Its been over a week since it was built, all the sealing should be dry.
Try what i said, and also try leaving it in the garage.

Ive heard of them smelling, but not so bad that your about to die.

use a few cans of spray primer on it before you finish it. It'll seal it so you can't smell it anymore.

And I bet it would dry faster in the van. Its like a greenhouse in there - humidity.

wow, never heard of smelly MDF before, maybe it's a cheap knock off brand thats actually Particle Board !?!?!?!??!?!?!

its not cheap wood its MDF i think it is the silicone that just smells like hell.

I would get killz instead of regular primer, that will make sure no mold got into the wood. cause if your getting smells that bad it could be mold forming form getting MDF that was wet at some point.

try taking your subs out of the box and checking if its stronger inside the box or the same as outside then youll know if its wood or sealant.

If its wood maybe clear coat the whole box if sealant leave it out in pure sunlight for a day.

mine stunk for a bit from the bed liner and then when i just did the fiberglass. my x-girlfriend pretty much refuses to get in my car kuz of the smell but i dont notice it tho. i was getting pretty Fing high off of it for a bit. but yeah take it out for a bit or i likke ur idea of stapling air freshoners to it that would look tight but smell horrible

well if its the wood smelling and its ported your gonna have to primer it inside and out. cause if you just primer the outside it is still gonna have un-primered mdf smell porting out the box.

The wood I used was the same Ive built 10+ boxes with from homedepot. He was there when we picked it out.

no really, my box smelled. i also didn't brush off the sawdust on the inside or outside with a rag or compressed air or anything. my cabin smelled a lil bit for a while, but i definitely did not suffocate. my trunk did smell like wood a good amount though for a while. every time i showed friends the junk in the trunk, they always comment how it smells like wood haha. not it doesnt smell much or at all unless you stick your nose in the port.

I remember my box ive built for my W7 and I left the box in my room the day I built it and it smelt like a forest until later on the smell went away. So I think airing out the box will help a little too..

glue down a small piece of red cedar wood inside the enclosure...
