I'm thinking of making boxes now on my freetime. I have no tools whatsoever that, I believe, are essential to making them. I just have whatever basic non-power tools that my dad has in our shed to work with (hammers, screwdrivers, etc). I'm wondering what tools should I be required to have, at least, to get me started, and how much money would I be spending?

To make good boxes, you will need a decently nice table saw, drills, routers, jig saw, sander. Then a bunch of small items.

I used a drill and jigsaw from Harbor Freight. Because of the lack of torque on my drill, countersinking drill bits are necessary. The jigsaw cuts through MDF like butter. I get my wood cut at lumber yards (NOT HOME DEPOT). Wood Glue and caulk. I use Liquid Nail to bond places that I cannot reach with my hands. Namely the inside of ports. It will act as a adhesive and sealant. And finally right angle clamps. I think I spent about $80-$90 for tools and other materials. It pays for itself in one box.

Jigsaws are fairly cheap, depending on what you get.

Screwguns are fairly cheap if you look around. You shouldn't need anything more than 12v for this job. Heck, I used 9v when I built my first.

You will want to buy a decent little set of drill bits though. Make sure to get a 1/8" drill-bit at the least, as that is the most commonly used as far as I can tell.

I need to buy right-angle clamps. Tonight!!!!

Thanks for all the input, guys. Question on jigsaws: Would it help to pay extra for a circular jig, being a beginner at all this? I'm looking through Home Depot's website and found a whole bunch of nice Skil tools I'd wanna purchase soon.

that 90 degree clamp is pretty good idea for clamping the corners for gluing and screwing:laugh:

honestly.....that clamp is a must!!
