No wood isnt split. An its recessed jus for cosmetic reasons. I like the way it looks when you paint the box 2 different colors, makes for a good looking transition between colors. I usually do 3/4" recess but did 1" to get the proper size the customer wanted.

Looks good. But any particular reason why the customer wanted a recessed baffle? Just so it didn't look like every other box?
Thats one of the reasons i Like doing it. This is the 3rd box ive done with a recessed baffle.

Yeah. It makes sense. The box in my car has a 2-1/2" recess, but thats so it clears the seats.

EDIT:: What paint do you use to paint it?

I actually spray painted my box, and it took like 3 cans to do a 2 cubed box 'cause it kept absorbing all the paint.

I will use black fleckstone on the box an white gloss paint for the baffle. Will most likely use gloss white enamel for paint. Used some blue gloss enamel before an it turned out pretty good.

In order to answer your question, I would need to know what model (e.g. SW4200, SW7524DVC). Also, are you looking to make a ported box or sealed?
