bottoming out??

when your woofer eaches peak x-max, i have heard i tmake a loud clank before when it happens.....you will know when yours bottom out...

The term bottoming out is when a sub is pushed further than it can and goes past its x-max. When this happens, the voice coil former hits the back plate behind it and gives out a slight thud sound. This is very bad cuz it can damage the voice coil former, the surround, or the spider. After this happens you can kiss the sub goodbye.

well ok, then maybe thats wha imm doing , shit i dont know.. i just know i finally went somewhere today to test out my system, and played Bass Mekanics cd and the bass wouldnt hit no harder than volume 24, to 34... it was still the same.. so i turned it down to 24 and went opened my trunk, the the cones on my subs looked like they were about to blow out..they were completely pushed.. and would not go no further..and i could hear a light popin noise..but thats only w/ bass cds..

you have your gains/bass boost/low frequencies up too much. it's cool for normal listening, but when you listen to bass tests or bass mekanik shit, you gotta turn those down or else you'll be sorry. think of it this way

subs are meant to make up for the lack of low end in normal music right? because with speakers you just don't get the low end reproduction.

but then somone like bass mekanik, his music revolves around sub's. its the opposite of normal music. in normal music, the emphasis is on the melody and mids and highs and the lows are there just cause they need to be to make the song sound right. but with bass tests, the little samples of drum things are there because they need to be. it's all about bass

anyway, thats my 2 cents.

Yea I meant after the voice coil former is bent all to hell from being slammed against the back plate. This will cause the sub to make a scratching noise when the cone is moved.
