I've had my 5.5 Boston Pros installed in the front doors now for 1-1/2 months and am not very pleased with the midrange / upper bass SQ performance of the 5-1/4" driver, but I like the tweeters. They are installed in the factory location "on axis", high passed at 80Hz, with amp gains at minimum. I rarely play music above 110dB.
I've have read many good recommendations here for the focal lines and have two trusted personal recomendations for them (although I have yet to here them - I intend to next week).
I am thinking of replacing the 5-1/4" driver with a focal and using the Boston Tweet and x-over. I want to keep the speakers in the same location.
Please, in your opinion:
Would this work installation wise, if I have the extra depth for the focals?
Would it give me better SQ in the midrange / upper bass frequency range?
Has anyone ever tried it? Please tell how you think it sounded?
If this is a good match, would you recommend the polyglass or polykevlar line of focals?
Any recommendations for improving the SQ keeping the Bostons?
Thanks in advance for your response.
