BoogerMan's 12k Crossfire build in a 1998 Toyota T100 SR5

Got started on the pods for the new door panels. It will hold 2 6.5s and will have a press fit panel with LEDs and a grill. Similar plan and style to the original design we were going with on the last door.

Figured out fitment and placement first

Made the fiberglass mold. Did 2 layers of 1.5oz mat.

Got the plastic foam piece secured to the speaker mounting base (birch piece in the pic). This is used to help secure the press fit panel that will have the grill (mdf piece in the pic, we still have to cutout the design from this piece).

Got the wood base traced onto the fiberglass mold. Trimmed it up and cut out a small section of the door panel for the magnets to clear. Just need to install some 1/2” risers on the back side of the wood base and then I can start wrapping it and fiberglassing

I was able to get a little more done on the door pod today after work. This is going nice and quick which is exactly what I need to get everything done by October. It won’t be the nicest door, but it will work for now. And since it isn’t permanent, I’ll be able to do something a little more intricate down the road when I have more time.

Added a 3rd layer of mat to the base. It’s much more solid now.

Added 1/2” risers near the bottom and 2” near the top. The top ones are much longer to accommodate the curve of the base.

Test fit was a success. Cleared everything by 1/4”-1/“2.

As usual with my method, did 2 layers of just resin on the material and then 2 layers of mat.

I’m definitely digging how the amp rack is coming along! Got all of the beauty panel templates cut out of a single piece of 1/2” mdf. Made some speaker/tweeter pods for the top corners as well.

Got the pods glued to the rear wall beauty panel

Magnets up next! Have some stuff going on today and next weekend so we probably won’t get to that until mid July. I’ll be trying to finish the door pods in the mean time.

I can’t wait to get this thing playing again!!

Little more progress today on the doors. Happy 4th everyone!

Trimmed the excess fiberglass and material. Sanded around the edges. First layer of body filler on the passenger side door pod.

First pass sanding with 60 grit. It’s getting there! Need to fill some low spots and do a few more passes of sanding. It will be vinyl wrapped so it doesn’t have to be perfect.

A little more progress. Unfortunately I won’t have time to work on it this weekend, but there is a show coming up August 18th so I’m going to try and have it playing again by then
and then have it completely finished by another show at the end of October.

Both door pods are almost finished. They will get vinyl wrapped and the grill will be made over the next couple weekends.

Driver side pod getting done

Filling a few lows spots. Another hand sand with 120 and they should be good enough.

We made some clamps that help prevent the battery from moving. They actually work really well lol. We had to keep the holding edge small because of the buss bar but the battery still isn’t going anywhere easily. There is also a piece of mdf along the opposite side of the battery that helps keep it in place as well.

Made the template for the panels that cover up the amp terminals. This will get cut out of one piece of 1/4” and held into place via press fit and maybe a couple magnets or velcro. We will see. Still new to all of this lol.

Got a few more things done. We are hopefully going to finish the port this weekend. Then I can get everything wired back up for the show. I’m getting really excited to hear it again!

Got the door pod bolted to the door.

test fit went well. The driver side seat cushion touches it a little bit but it should be fine for now until I have time to do full door panels.

Got the rca box mounted right below the deck. There isn’t really any room back by the amps so this will have to do.

Got everything wired up and playing again! Took it to a USACI show last Saturday and got first in two music classes; street beat 4 and bass battles extreme. Did a 156.6 30 second average at 38hz in street beat and did a 154.8 1 minute average at 42hz getting me 192 points in bass battles. I need to find a better song for bass battles to get my score and overall points up a little. Still I’m very happy with 156+ on music. I did a burp with my ssa meter and did a 157.8 at 41hz so my kick score went up about .5db and my peak frequency went down 4 hz compared to the April show. The gain was probably from the stronger cab structure and the lower peak was from shrinking and lengthening the port. Now when I play 20hz it actually has some authority. I’m excited to see what it does when I have my dash put back together, a center console installed, and the beauty panels put up  :)

Here are some pics of the port and wiring. I still have a decent amount of work left but it’s mostly easy cosmetic stuff, besides the center console.

The windshield adhesive let go on my side quarter panel windows after demoing for about an hour. I guess it doesn’t bond well to the rubber gasket. Unfortunately now that the amp wall is permanent I can’t get to the screw to remove the window and re-glue it with something else. So I sealed it up with 1/2 a tube of silicone and then used 1/2 a can of great stuff to help stiffen it up. Once I seal off the gap between the truck wall and amp wall, there shouldn’t be any pressure hitting these side windows anyways. Just figured I’d be safe and seal it up the best I could before sealing off the wall gap :)

Little more progress. Got all of the speaker wire and RCAs ran under the carpet and secured in their final spots. These wires will all be hidden behind a beauty panel that seals off these side walls :)

Got about 90% done with the new magnets for the beauty panels. Went through 100 of them on these 4 panels and need about 50 more to finish them up and do the battery rack. Should be able to finish it up next weekend. Used N52 strength and dimensions 1/8” thick x 3/8” diameter. Seems like it should work out really well!

Started body filling the screw holes and minor imperfections around the port. It will be vinyl wrapped (at least that’s the plan as of now) so it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Oh man you just keep getting deeper and deeper lol overwhelmed yet?

I'm not sure if I asked this yet, but have you clamped your draw vs voltage drop yet?

Yeah a little. I’m just trying to make it look decent, but I’m no pro haha. I just want a “finished” build. Most of this stuff is out of my league, but it’s cool trying new techniques and figuring out what works and what doesn’t. I only have 3 more months until my baby is here so I need to pick up the pace and get this thing finished haha. I see the light at the end of the tunnel for the beauty panels but I still have the center console to make and cosmetic stuff so it will be close.

I haven’t had a chance to clam for draw yet. After it’s all done I’ll be trying to get some more info like that. I know I’m clamping around 4100w per amp, but that was at my old peak of 45hz so it might be a little more at my new peak of 40hz. I haven’t even paid attention to my voltage on burps but I would guess mid to high 13s at 2k rpm. I’ll post up rise, draw, voltage, etc in a couple months. There is a show at the end of October so I’ll need it playing and mostly finished by then. Hopefully I can get all the info around then too :)

I don't know a lot about the deal with having kids, but I do know you won't be having a full 3 months lol within a month or two you'll be doing a lot more to support someone supporting someone else

Either way it's nice to see people take their time an do things at a reasonable pace for their circumstance

Yeah you are pretty spot on about that. By 3 months to get it done I mean about 8-12 hours a week I can be out in the garage. So the reasonable pace part is a mix of it’s still f’ing hot out here so I don’t want to be in the garage, and I gotta take care of the wifey, and get the nursery room ready haha.

Going to try and get a little more done tomorrow/Thursday after work and hopefully most of Saturday :)

Got the roof cleaned up with some 1/8” hardboad so the vinyl lays smoothly. I still need to make the trim piece for the front near the windshield and then wrap it all in vinyl. Also did some body work around the rear wall speaker pods to give them a little shape. It should make it easier to wrap as well. My wife works Saturday and Sunday this weekend so hopefully I can get a lot more done :)

Few more updates over the past couple of weekends. I can’t beleive it is already the end of September. Time to get stuff finished up so I can knock out the center console next month before IFO near the end of October.

Spray foamed the door trash areas. I’ll seal off the foam and body work it before it gets flocked black.

CA57297E-4673-4A47-A459-D007B1CFD8A9.jpeg98F24940-D932-441C-B880-CEC7460C85AA.jpeg

Sealed off the side wall amp panels and added some magnets. The RCAs run behind this panel so I want to make it removable for now. If it doesn’t hold up when music is playing then I’ll make it permanent and figure out something to allow me access to the RCAs. I have some ideas so won’t be a huge deal if I need to do that

Started wiring up the multichannel amps. The two 800.4s are completely done for the 6.5s. Just need to wire up the 400.4 for the tweets next. We didn’t leave any room for running wires (noobs trying to do subframes and beauty panels lol), so I had to get creative and run some wires under the 800.4s. One set of rca runs under the passenger side 800.4 and 2 runs of 2 awg, the remote wire, and 4 runs of 14 awg under the driver side 800.4
