bondo instead of fiberglass

i gave up trying to get a surface for my pods without dips, so once i have sanded the bondo smooth, your saying, cover it in resin, sand it, high build primer it, then paint it. sounds like a good idea...

Personally I would recommend using duraglass or bondo glass and sand that down, then use regular body filler to smooth everything out. You will have alot stronger bond to the mdf than just primer. You can use 80 grit to knock down the duraglass and then on the bondo just use it to knock down the lines caused by the putty knife. Then block the whole thing with 180. After that prime and block with 400 and it is ready to paint

how well does the high build primer work?
just a thicker primer that kind of lays itself down into the cracks and such..

it's not a solution to a gouge, more of a solution to rough surfaces. less coats = less sanding. It works well if you don't have anything too severe...

as for original poster:

sand down box.

spray primer(including the first couple inches of port)

sand down primer with medium grit

fill any scratches or gaps with bondo

prime again

sand 2nd prime with high grit paper

paint box desired color(clear if desired)

and if you want it REALLY smooth

wetsand and buff

well i ended up gettin a gallon of bondo for $10 last nite- seemed cheap so i decided to go this way.........

my box is already painted so do i need to sand it down then spray on primer or can i just add the bondo and get started?

sand first. you don't need to sand the paint off, just get it 'roughed' up so the primer will stick.

Slicksand that and be done with it. slicksand is unlike any regular high build primer and has the consistency of water. look into it, but its pricier.
