I'm new to the car audio world. I want to upgrade the sound system all around on my E46 with the Harman Kardon factory upgrade. The sound quality sounds very muffled and I may have one or two blown speakers. I would like to keep it as stock looking as possible (meaning keeping the rear deck housing). I'm not looking for the best setup ever made. I'm interested in a midrange-quality setup. I listen a variety of music, majority being electro, dubstep, hiphop, rap, and alternative rock. Just a little background of my home setup. I have a 2.0 setup with Tannoy Reveals 501a monitors hooked up to a TEAC USB audio DAC that sound pretty good with my music playlist. I also have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro headphones that sound amazing too.
The Harman Kardon setup includes:
- two 1" tweeters in the front
- two 2" midrange speakers in the front
- two 6" midwoofers in the front
- two 1" tweeters in the rear
- two 6" midwoofers in the rear
- two 6x9 rear deck subwoofers in the trunk
- one HK amplifier
I think the HK speakers and amp are all rated for 3 ohms; most the speakers I've been looking at are rated 4 ohms. I've been reading into a few brands so far, including Dayton, Infinity, Polk, Hertz, and Hybrid Audio. It seems like the more I read into this, the more indecisive I get.
I would like to have the front setup in a 3 way crossover configuration and the rear to be coaxial. Would that be an efficient setup for me? What brands/models do you guys recommend I look into? I guess the budget would be under $1000 for the tweeters, midrange speakers, midwoofers, subwoofers, amp, and crossovers. I'm not sure if that budget would be enough for everything. I greatly appreciate your help and time.
