Just got a 50" Sony Grand Wega. I've never really watched HDTV before this and I threw on the James Bond Blu-ray and was just blown away.

Every color was just jumping out and every detail was screamin for attention. I think someone on an acid trip would die from sensory overload watching this tv.

Now I just need to get some home audio stuff goin on.

what player are you using?

and if you can afford both hd-dvd and blu ray go for it cause the format war is gonna last quite some time. blu ray usually has better sounding movies (more lossless audio movies) and hd-dvd has better picture quality over all.

i used to just support just hd-dvd but 2 weeks ago i bought a ps3 and my blu ray count is doing pretty good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif 11 vs about 40 hd-dvds

Doubtful, this is Sony after all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I don't expect Blu-Ray to succeed where Betamax, Minidisc and SACD all failed...especially if they refuse the porn industry. That'll make or break the format.

I think it is stupid that people would jump ship on Blue-ray because they weren't supporting porn.

Anyway, I support Blue-Ray in this whole thing... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I would love to buy a hd/blue ray player but at the current prices and the format war I just can not justify the purchase. I have seen both formats on varied systems and they are great. I do not see a format winner. Perhaps we will have both formats supported, see the new LG dvd player that supports both formats but is $1200 smackeroos, with no winner. That would not be too bad. But for me either choice may mean spending several hundred dollars or a bit more "re-buying" already purchased SD dvd's of my favorite movies.

I am waiting for the cost of either format player to drop to $300 then I will buy one of the other. I would pay $500 for the dual format player but not $1200. I am a survivor of the 8 track to cassette evolution, vhs to dvd evolution and will survive the current format wars but with a bit more wisdom and money in my pocket...I hope lol.

I have a very nice LG 50" plasma that is dying to show off with one of the hd formats but is surviving with my $80 Philips dvd player that actually works **** good for its' cost.

Good luck and I hope you all survive lol.

Our toshiba HD-DVD player was at $399 today at CC...

I'm also waiting for the dual format player. Screw chosing sides...

I have a ps3 in which I watch blueray... man I have to say it is AMAZING quality over a standard DVD. I would have chosen blueray over hd-dvd anyways personally if I was to just buy a standalone player but since it is already built into my ps3, it was the perfect match.

Technologically, Blu-Ray is superior, but that's all it's got going for it. Jmac is right. The whole reason the lower quality VHS beat out betamax was because you could record on a VHS and you could record porn on a VHS. If Sony really is refusing the porn industry, they are dead. I don't know the figures but if 97% of the internet is porn, you can imagine the video recording industry holds an astoundingly high amount of it, too. If they just released the format openly for everything, it'd be a heated battle for a long time and would boil down whoever got enough advantage to release cheaper mass produced hardware.

plus if you buy it at CC you get 4 free movies from CC and 5 from toshiba so it makes it a $199 player..

I still remeber when regular DVD's were $5 a piece, that didnt last long //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I'm just waiting for the Blu-ray or HD-DVD computer drives that are cheap enough. I only watch crap on my comp anyways.

Blue Ray > Toshiba HD DVD.I emailed Sony about BLue Ray and why they decided NOT to do a double format/backwards compatible on their disks and they said they knew it would bring up the price 10 bucks per cd. . . . i also noticed that Toshiba HD DVD's with dual format are 10 bucks more expensive. . . . . Sony doesnt LIE //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

looks like your 2 cents where useless

1. their already coming with a disk you speak of

2. they are the same price as fox blu ray releases (39.99 retail)

3. i bet you dont own one of the formats let alone both, or have compared both on the same set

That's a rather poor review and "test". Let's see the same "test" done without that battery, let's see it done with a parts store AGM, let's see...
