bump... the broken FET reads

1rf640 with a bigger F above the numbers

Would the amp smoke and smell bad if this just came disconnected?

The FET really stinks but the amp no longer does.

I have some IRF640s here. If you replace one I suggest replacing the whole bank... you don't HAVE to, but it's a good idea to do so. They are cheap.

Oh yah... make SURE that every FET has that little pad under it and that the metal part is not touching the heatsink.

You need to have some basic soldering skills, a good iron, and a solder removal tool -- I usually use a "solder sucker" and solder wick for the stubborn solder pads.

I'd ship you 20 of them for 10 bucks as I have alot of them... but make sure they are all 640s before we go any farther. I think the others will be IRF9640... that number is in my head for some reason *laughs* It's been a long day.

so do you think that the FET would of stunk that bad without even acctually burning?

That FET is defiantly bad... but they usually don't stink much. If it was absolutely terrible you probably blew a cap, look for gooey stuff.

Sounds like that is your culprit then... FYI, I forgot to mention this... my friend had a V800XD and he had some FETs do the same thing where they shear off at the legs. It was nothing more than the FETs and I have no idea why they do that.
