blown tweets again

what? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
i have a zapco amp with gains all the way down so i dont think its a power issue it is a good comp set and i have good power and they sound clean and loud till they blow thay have blown with gain set with dmm and now they have blown with the gain all the way down

what set of comps? ya, cadence, but what model? being 5.5 comps, they may be not as beefy as you need. i would eithe upgrade the crossover or the tweeter.I had some PG TI Elite comps and went thru a few tweeters, got a set of boston tweets now. same amp, same xover, no problems. And these see 200 watts
yea i dont remember what modal they are but they was not that expenceve

setting gains isn't just as easy as just saying "they are all the way down" or they are only half way". hook an amp to an eclipse 8v HU and you'll still easily get the max power out of the amp with the gains all the way down.

the gain knob isn't a volume knob.

either the tweeters just ****, or you're sending them a clipped signal which in fact is overpowering them.

things happen for a reason.

yea i have an older jvc 2 volts out and duh i know it a volume knob the last set of tweets was jl audio

i am still going to say that you need more power for the volume you are trying to listen at. either that, or your crossovers are going bad and letting lower frequencies to your tweeters than they should be seeing.

tweeters blow from being overpowered or from being crossed to low.

overpowering can also be from to little power, meaning clipping.

i know that my zapco amp is 100wrms x2 but im sure its more then that being its a zapco and i tried another set of xovers with the same thing happing blown tweeter right side

guys, it is most likely not his gain, i just had this problem and told him a way to fix it through pm. Hopefully it works and there is no more problems. I told him to use a resistor and all that soldering and shrink tube BS, so i'm hoping that is the problem. It will be an easy fix if it is.
and what is the resistor going to do for him?

thats half your problem you are sending a clipped signal to the amp and its sending it to your comps

only go 75% of your hu volume so mine goes to 50 and i set gains on 35 vol

limit the tweeters power, so they don't get as much power as the mids do. Cutting the tweeters power in half wouldn't give them a chance to blow.
Just something to try, especially if you are mixing tweeters with a component set
that may work, but it will also cut output on the tweeters, obviously.

that may not be desirable.

i could just see him saying "now they are to quiet" then boosting with his eq, and using more unavailable power.

as long as he is ok with a lower tweeter level then that may work just fine.

as long as they are 30-50 rms tweeters they will get plenty loud. Especially if they are a higher sensitivity than the mids are. By the way, i really hate blowing tweeters, so i hope something helps.
i would imagine so. speakers are supposed to work. lol
