i think my alpine type r tweeter is blown. it some times makes a sizzling sound like a pice of aluminum foil was over it some times, but not all the time. i'v all ready looked on ebay for a pair of type r tweeters and could not find some and even did a google search. can some one please help me out and tell me where i can get pair of teets or what i can replace them with because i really like the sound of the silk tweeter.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i was hopeing some thing cheap cuz i really dont have that much money to spend i'm trying to save up for a good pair of comp and new amp so about 80 or less is ok i guess. what is the diff betweet active and passive?

here you go read it. http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=128641&highlight=active+passive.

what is the model of your alpine HU? the problem for you is if you can't go active you must use your passive crossovers for whatever tweeters you are going to buy you must hook them up with your passive crossovers. the problem with this is that in the passive crossovers the xover slopes and xover frequencies are already preset and these presets might not be designed for those tweeters. so it might sound like shiet. but who knows? you can give it a try.

what i suggest is try to find another pair of type r tweets off someone on the forums if someone is selling.

One thing you must do is replace the old Alpine tweeters with tweeters of the same impedance. Otherwise you are going to alter the crossover frequency....and that'll really sound bad.

And then, like alpha said.....even if you do replace it with a new tweeter of the same impedance, the new tweeter may not sound good with the Alpine's xover point and slope....so even then it's still a gamble.

Anyways....what impedance are the Alpine tweeters?

ahhh turns out my mid woffer is making the same high pitched sound as my tweeter and i all ready tested each comp by itself and the xover and they are blown so much for just buying a set of tweets, now i need a whole new set of comps. but thanks for your help guys.

I'v got around $200 to play around with. i was thinking maybe some dimonds or polks. how are the new alpine type r's? I just want some comps with clear crisp and not harsh tweets (warm). I was thinking maybe some silk tweets but have been wondering about alum or titanium tweets? I also was looking for nice midbass with punchy mid bass, clean responce, and crisp sound. over all i liked my type rs but i was wanting to get alittle more juice outta em since they were my fist comps i'm wanting to move up a sep. i'm open to any opinions or advice.

like i said, what is the model of your alpine HU? if it is the 9815,9835,or 9855 then you can go active and go the DIY route but it seems like thats probably not an option.

for $200 if you can find a set of Rainbow SLCs that would be perfect. It comes with a silk dome tweet and the mid is very nice. I'm actually running those mids now and the midrange is pretty smooth and plenty of punch midbass.

Contact a member on here, Tplaya07. Ask him about what DLS and OZ Audio components he could get you for in that price range. Both of those would be good choices.
