I bought this POS off of ebay supposedly new in box, but it didnt come with a warranty. My amp puts out around 500 watts at 4 ohms and i had the level at 3/4, no bass boost whatsoever (HU or amp) and i blew the voice coil (on an infectious organisms track if you've heard of them, they rule). Is there any way to get infinity to send me a new one? How about repairing? What are my options?

Well, you were sending it over it's rated RMS, and at 3/4 gain no less. Does your HU only have 1/2V preouts? If it has any higher than that, your gain was set too high. Infinity won't help you out since you abused the driver. If it was a manufacturing problem (glue on the spider coming off, for instance) then Infinity would deal with it. I don't know if you can get them fixed, and if you can, it would probably be worth it to buy another sub for the cost of fixing the blown one.

Surprisingly, they sent me new subs when I blew mine. They really should advertise that they're mainly sq drivers, not that they don't hit.. but they blow easily if pushed too hard. Like Mark said, I stripped the glue off the spider, so maybe that's why they replaced them. I don't know how they would react to a bad vc though. Send them in, it's worth a try.

Ya EarDrummin is right. When I blew my Perfects I stripped the glue off so they would send me a new pair. They won't replace them unless its a manufacturing problem. I was way overpowering them because I was running a Planet Audio 2250D.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Oh well, when I got my replacements I sold them right away and I got some other subs.:p

Good luck!!!!!!

I guess I will do the same.. Do I call to make a replacement or anything? How should I handle this? It isnt warrantied, so I am not sure what the protocol is.

They should advertise them as SQ drivers? are there any manufacturers that advertise their gear as SQ or SPL? (there are a few, I know don't flame out here, mtx, CV stroker, etc.) They are a great woofer.

Infinity will probably tell you to pound sand. You didn't buy the woofer from an authorized dealer so there's a real good chance they won't replace it. This is the reason I always frown when anyone on this forum recommends someone buy something on the net.

Good luck dude.

I actually bought mine off the net. I had to print off a few receipts from the seller and lot of convincing before they actually took them in. It did take about 8 weeks though before they send it back to me.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif As long as you have some sort of proof of purchase I think you are good. Mine receipt had serial #s on it too so that helped. Anyways, give them a call and see what they say and post back.

i had 2 perfects replaced direct from infinity cus i blew them. it was very odd how it all worked, but i have another blown one now and i think i might send it back. I love them but they just wont take that much power... well not if you arent really careful. and if you had your gains 3/4 that is wayy too high, you should be putting your gains at more like 1/4 to 1/2. Thats how i originally blew mine, only i didnt blow the VC, the cone separated from the spider.

Unless you are positive thats not what is wrong with yours i would check it out. on mine it looked like it was fine until i looked close up, its like a extra catching thing it does where if the glue comes off it is held on still by another thingy, i dont remember exactly what it looked like,it was like 3 months ago. But i could push the cone down, and have it "pop" back into place. I ended up getting some super glue and gluing it back cus it would keep popping back out of place before i glued it. ANd it made a really horrible loud popping noise thing when it was pushed too hard, but sounded perfect until that point.

some companys will replace subs and speakers within a specific time period like alpine for example beatha had a type S 12" and snapped the tinsel lead in the middle of the lead adn alpine replaced it free or charge with the newer type S 12" but the older 1 sounded better

Good News - I called Infinity and I am getting it replaced. **** I'm smooth sometimes. I am most definitely selling it when I get it and getting something that can handle my power.

how did u get them to replace them?

I've seen a lot of posts about how people got new Infinity subwoofers, it seems they might be expecting it? A lot of people seem to blow them. I could even call it a defect, since rms is the "recommended" amount of power you should continuously use, often they still break apart at that power. WIth the amount of money that company charges for their products, I think they should put a little more into the durability.. but again, it's good they replace those things. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
