Blown fuses. Where do I start?

I installed my amp and sub a few weeks back and it was doing great and hitting hard. A "new plastic" smell became to come from where I have the amp and sub. The amp smells more like the smell than the sub. The speaker and amp information is below. I'm only pushing a single sub so i'm not sure how I could have blown the amp or the sub. When I bridge the sub, the fuses blow right away. When I don't have the sub bridged, the fuses don't blow but the bass is very low. I'm using

a 4 gauge wiring kit.

AMP:

Pioneer GM-5400T 2 channel 760 Watt Max

380 W RMS when bridged

SUB:

Single Pioneer Shallow Mount TS-SW301 12"

4 ohm single voice coil 1000 watts 250 W RMS

When I put new fuses in, the light for the amp shows up. Could the amp be blown if the light still comes on? I've been doing some research and I've heard, the sub could be blown, replace the sub speaker wires, the RCA cables are bad or it's the amp. Where can I start looking for a problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The gain is not set all the way up. Even when I turn the gain down, the fuses still blow. The gain was never properly sent. Just set based on sound.

It's a short. You need to get a dmm and check the resistance between + and - on the amp inputs. That will show you that you have LOW resistance and your amp is blown. Now you will know beyond a shadow of a doubt to get a new one or get this one repaired. Good day.
