Birch vs MDF

I can guarantee that the birch you guys are getting for $30-40 a sheet is NOT the correct 9 - 13 ply Baltic Birch. Baltic Birch comes from Russia or other foreign countries, only. What you are buying is cabinet grade Birch which has outside plies that are birch. The inside is still regular old plywood. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Genuine Baltic birch is $50-60+ a sheet and usually comes in 5' x 5' sheets. Baltic birch information - what is baltic birch?
Its not Baltic Birch its Birch plywood as stated before.

yeah the stuff for $40 is a laminated birch cabinet grade plywood only like 5 ply.some have a layer that is powdery and will fall apart at some point.

the true birch is 13 ply and around $120 a sheet.

birch has been used over seas for 10+ years in box's.some guys will only use mdf for ports that needed sanded and rounded

so another dummy question. whats the best screws for birch? is drywall screws ok? or whats your preference
wood screws //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

You want to go with a 7 ply or better no void birch. If you want to go all out and get baltic birch go for it. Birch has twice the sheer value of MDF meaning it is way more rigid(less flex). Just make sure what ever plywood you get it is void free.

Any hard wood ply will be better then MDF.. but it should be void free or the box can buzz..

Good ply runs $70 up to over $150 per 4'x8' where I live... MDF is more like $30...

dont use drywall screws they snap to easy.I used the good old gold wood screws unless i need something bigger
Definitely not true. Not sure what screws you are referring to because my coarse thread drywall screws have never "snapped" in the hundreds of boxes i'v built..
