You just gotta have a way longer run. Unless that wire is already of an adequate size, like 2 gauge. If it's only 4 gauge, you could probably get away with just adding another run of 4 gauge. Anything less and you should definitely do 1/0. If there's any possibility of you buying a bigger alternator in the future, just do 1/0 now.
