i just picked up my custom built 260 amp alternator from ohio gen and he told me DO NOT put anything bigger than 4 guage from the alternator to the battery.....he said it was like putting a funnel upside down ........it doesnt really help in other words.......i will be running a total of 4000 watts to the system.....i have an interstate megatron and a red top optima right now that will power the system.......should i only us 4 guage or should i use 0.....thanks

Personally I dont see a problem with using bigger cable. If you use 0 gauge for all 3 cables then I really dont see a problem. Im no expert though.

if he said DO NOT USE nothing smaller than 4 guage, i dont know why you would do otherwise??? He built it for ya, he knows what will fux it up... Just my .02

Ive used 0, others have used 0 gauge...none have failed to mention its WRONG to do so or that it causes problems.

Guy probably assumes you cant get power wire cheap, therefore 4 gauge max is all you need...considering the prices STORES charge for amp kits and what not. Although at the distance(possibly in your car) 4 gauge is enough to supply 260a's over it?

He may be saying theres no need to use bigger wire because the length of 4 gauge can capacitate the 260 amp flow, which is BS. I would still throw in atleast some 0 gauge. IASCA reccomends 2 gauge for a 4ft run capacitating 125 amps minimum for no less than a .5 volt drop, so id def go with 0 or 1/0 for the big 3 to flow 260 amps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
