So I'm putting together a littlle system for my dad's semi. I don't know if special considerations will need to be made considering the fact that it'll be in a big rig, so input on this will be welcomed. I want a hu with time delay considering the rear speakers are in the sleeper. He wants to use his xm radio with it, so it's going to need to be compatible. he wants a usb and 3.5 aux in front. ipod compatible. 5.25 components for the front doors, and 6x9's in the back. Gonna need a serious 4 channel for the highs, considering the noise it'll have to drown out. I'm undecided on what to do about the lows, but i'll be keeping it fairly simple. Looking for good deals on equipment...

Making a rig quiet while running is nearly impossible and very expensive to boot, so we're just going to make it loud, lol. I'll hook the the doors up a little for the components, but that's about it.

just an idea but.....DEADEN IT FIRST!!! Measured my little rig at 108 dB at 70mph when I first got it. (Could barely hear the sound with no amps.) Couple hundred in roof & floor dynomat & a layer of half inch carpet underlay pad, 95dB now. Going to spray the inside of doors when I get time & more floor padding. Firewall padding will be a must, almost nothing to deaden between you and an big angry Diesel.

Please trust me on this, if you get out and your ears are ringing - permanant hearing loss, very bad in the future. Quiet that machine down inside and any tunes you put in will sound much nicer. I don't have any valuable h.u. input, but possible subs...

I took the air suspension seats out leaving a big gap to fill between my new buckets and floor. Enough for a 12" in about 1.8 cubic feet under each seat.

I appreciate the input TurboRedneck, but extensive deadening isn't really a viable option. For one, it's not oppressively loud. Nothing, even remotely, close to causing tinnitus, lol. It's a 2005 Freightliner Columbia. And he has a tendency to go through trucks every few years anyway, so re-installing the equipment when he gets a new one will be enough of a hassle. As for the sub, he has a double sleeper, so it's big enough to put one just about anywhere back there. He mentioned tucking it in one of the storage cubbies, which doesn't sound like a bad idea, although I was thinking about building it into the space below his bunk, firing into the cab.

My last Kenwood had all that, not sure if the latest ones have time delay though. Generally you have to get up into the top tier of HU to get that.

I've also had good luck with Jensen flip up DVD players. My last one did 5.1 surround and had time delay. Not sure how much of that they have on the new stuff, but for the price I was very impressed.
any truckers caps @SpiderMonkey
lol... Doubt he has any trucker caps.
And he bought the x995 I recommended, so that can be crossed off the list. Now on to the speakers and amps.... Need good deals on quality stuff here guys. I put this in the WTB section for a reason.
