BIG monitors in a vehicle?

Anyone running a big monitor, like 40" or larger in their vehicle?

What holds up best to jarring and vibration? LCD or plasma? Which one is lighter? I'm interested to see different methods of mounting one as well.

I've got some serious custom stuff underway in my Explorer right now, and I'd be mounting this behind the front seats, either connected to the floor or to the roof.

A 40 inch in an explorer? Won't that be too big? Why not a 26 or something? LCD is more than likely the best way to go.

Try searching the 5-Axis Scion tC w/ the Pioneer equiptment. I think it was at SEMA 2004.

If you're seriously trying to be helpful, thank you. Althought after seeing that pic, it doesn't help me for my application. That thing is hideous! That's not at all what I am going for. This monitor will be fixed inside the cabin of the vehicle.

To the rest of you with your "dumb" and "stupid" comments, eat a dick. You don't have a clue to what I'm going to do with it, so your own assumptions are what make it seem stupid to you. My finished project will be far from that, I assure you.

40-42" may be stretching it. I'd consider 37-ish, just depending on what's available. 26" will be too small for what I have planned. Without giving away my exact plans, I'll just say that everything behind the front seats will be repositioned and overhauled to turn the rear cabin of the vehicle into a theater experience on the INSIDE, even while the vehicle is moving down the road. I don't do anything half-assed. The rear seats in there now are being ditched and what's replacing them will not go in the same location. It will virtually lose all feel of even being in a vehicle for the rear seat passengers. And really, the purpose will be strictly for the ultimate roadtrip vehicle, and of course for shows. At the same time, I'm going to be careful to make it functional and comfortable, not just gimmicky like the vehicle in that picture.

Again, thanks in advance to those who can offer mature, serious advice. I know it's going to be tough with all of the knuckleheads on here, but at the same time, I figure a forum like this one will have a few experienced folks passing through, even for something as wild as this.

there was a guy around here that had a 42" plasma in the back of a caprice and then in his tahoe. i think you would be better off with an lcd no larger than 32". what are you wanting it for to plauy dvd's music videos or gaming? i had a 7" in my truck and would play music videos and sometimes watch aqua teen when i was in the school parking lot.

there was a guy around here that had a 42" plasma in the back of a caprice and then in his tahoe. i think you would be better off with an lcd no larger than 32". what are you wanting it for to plauy dvd's music videos or gaming? i had a 7" in my truck and would play music videos and sometimes watch aqua teen when i was in the school parking lot.

It will be for all of the above, mostly movies and gaming via a PS3. I have been using headrest monitors now for a while, but this will be way beyond that. It's not just adding a monitor to the existing setup. A lot of other changes are taking place as we speak.

It may be a little big. I'm going to check out something in the 36 or 37-ish range too. Anything smaller will be too small, and I'd rather go a little too big if anything. I have a 73" in my living room and a 65" in my bedroom, so I like big TVs.

yea, i was being serious when i posted the info about the 5-Axis. from what you said, it kinda sounds like your doing something like what was done on Unique Whips about 2 years ago, with Tony Stewart's hurst. except, if i remember correctly, they did theirs in a motorized cabinet of some-sort. possibly something to look into??? in any case, GL with the build, im sure we would all love to see it be done properly.

i say for mounting i used custom made alluminum brackets . they are very strong and very light.

FYI, plasma wears out over time.
