big hu problem help please

alright so i figured i would hewlp my friend install his hu. so i take his stock hu out, wire up the harnesses for the new one, hold the ground onto metal on the chassis, and nothing happens, new hu doesnt fire up. i try to plug the old hu back in, and that doesnt work either. but before i started it did..wtf? i don't understand why nothing is working. everything in the car is workign still but the hu..
