Big decision.R1. Need some advice...

Cool, I just didnt want to see another set of skid marks on the road man. If you feel your confident enough and can control it, get it. But my idea still stands, buy a REAL bike, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Ducati and MV Agusta, especially mine, FTW!!

if there 8 grand i might buy a ducati... other than that .... Every r1 ive seen at the track smokes either of those 2 bikes... only a gxr1000 and modded busa's have taken it..Yes it's all in the driver/rider but most ppl consider the r1 a REAL bike //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ... Ur trying to compare apples to oranges..ei 07 Z06 vs lambo

Becuase they've never known any different. I've gone to bike meets with the MV and had guys just sit on it and lean it back and forth and their Jaw's drop. Its soo light and easy to flick. It may not have be the best straight line but I've taken a good number of 1000's through the turns...and mines a 750. While I do agree that I'm comparing apples to oranges, I cant say it enough that when you buy a Ducati or MV, your buying a hand-made work of motorcycle art that has its share of balls. I've never seen any bike from the Japanese 4 get the looks that my MV does...Boys like rice crushers, but men love the pasta rockets.

Can't really help ya with your decision but I figured I would chime in. My cousin has one of those, and those things are BADA$S. He goes nuts on his, but he rode motocross for years and has been riding since he was like 13. I plan to get a bike someday but I'm gonna wait until I get out of college. My cuz popped a wheely on his R1 @ 90mph and rode it to about 140mph when I was down in Tampa visiting him... CRAZY.

It wasnt too hard actually, I'm only 19. I've been workin since I was 16 and worked to save about $5000, took out the other $20k from the bank with my parents co-signing and it came out to be about $200 or so a month, which they pay. I registered it as a show/weekend vehicle which permits me I think 500 miles a month and saves me a good chunk on insurance. Its all about how you go about it.

Umm...

I dont know if it's a good first bike for you. There's a big difference between just taking a bike for a spin around the block and actually being able to deal with what you will encounter every day in traffic. If you dont know how to ride well in traffic, this bike will mess you up...real fast. Obviously a Cr80 or a Nighthawk doesnt not even compare to the power of an R1. But, if you've actually ridden your buddies bikes a lot then I say go for it. But most seasoned riders will tell you its best to have at least 3 seasons under your belt before moving up to one of these things.

Also, someone pointed out gas mileage. An R1 will get around 40-45 mpg...the Civic is rated 38, 50 if you get the hybrid. It's more, but nothing to make a decision based on.

Still debating on this one .. For those that did nt read the thread , i have a 2002 mitsu. diamante vr-x .. And my 2 options are ..

1) keep the diamante fix/tune it up and get a bike... Might be an r6 now ( the r1 is gone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif) .. but the diamante has 105k miles , n the ****** is slippin a bit

2) Trade in the diamante on a 07 civic si...

A few other minor.. things... Considering i live in northern minnesota we have about 6 months max i could drive the bike..

from my experience, i was in similar boat... i really wanted to get rid of my car and go with a more performance oriented choice but i had always wanted a bike, so i kept my car for my decent daily driver because it was reliable and i bought a bike and it was probably the best thing i ever did, it was pretty much the happiest summer for me, never had more fun, it was great. i live in chicago and it snows plenty here too and i didnt care, i had the bike out as much as possible and loved it every minute.

R-1 is alote of power!

not worried.. i can ride //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It would be nice to have a new si tho.. descent mileage, 0 miles full warranty, and its a honda, so it'll go forever and hold re sale

There's a difference between knowing how to ride and being able to operate a motorcycle.

But hey, its your life.
